Hanbat Shul-Lung-Tang ![]() It’s “hands-down” the best Sullungtang that I know. Really..I’ve never had anything better, from SF to NY… this is THE place. It’s so true when people said that once you had the best, you can never go back…when I had the craving, nothing can cure it unless I come here. Yes..that bad. ![]() People who doesn’t know how to eat sullungtang don’t like it b/c they think it’s too bland, but the correct way to eat it is to add some sea salt, green onions (I add TOnS of it), red pepper paste (if you like it spicy) and some people even prefer to add that kimchee juice into the soup. For those of you that don’t know what sullungtang is, you can read it here. Their soup is very rich and deep in flavor, probably cook for 10+ hours to be able to get the color and the flavor. It’s not greasy, they probably took out the fat during the first 3 hours of boiling. I tried to cook it at home before, and oh boy… there was big layer of FAT on top of the soup, only way to take it out is to chill the soup in the fridge and let the fat harden to separate the soup and the fat. ![]() Service here is pretty quick, they first give you water and take your order. Since there are only a few selection on menu, it usually doesn’t take long to decide what to order. You either have the mixed (if you are more adventurous like me) or just the beef flanks or brisket. Within few minutes they will bring out the kimchee, radish kimchee and rice then cut the kimchee for you. Few more minutes later, your soup will come. No need to wait at all, super speedy service! If it get’s pack, the wait isn’t long either, since the turn around time is quick as well. Oh, I forgot to mention…they are very generous about the meat, my soup is full of them.. some place usually only give you a few piece and some glass noodle, and rest of them is just soup. What’s the price for all the goodie? $9 including tax. A low price for such deliciousness. Door open at 7AM and close at 10PM from Monday to Sunday.

I used to eat here everybody when I worked in Century City. I love it! $10 out the door, no frills, just great food!
Yeap.. I wish they are next door to me. I can eat that everyday…great stuff!
I don’t like it because I got food poisoning from it once. Not from this particular place, but still – they’re all the same in the end.
I’m pretty sure I “know” how to eat “seolleongtang”. It’s just salt and green onions. The red peppers will completely obliterate the weak bone flavor. $10, I’d rather eat 2 bowls of pho… K-food is so beyond expensive and SLT houses always give cheap panchan…
Poor Christine…you probably had a pretty bad memory from sullungtang, that’s always not good. I guess home made is the way to go. =)
SinoSoul – Agree w/ u, I don’t like the red pepper flakes, I just like my original. I guess everyone has different preferences on food, I like Pho but the flavor is just different on SLT in my opinion.
I’ve been wanting to try this place … ever since watching K-drama and seeing them eat sullungtang hahaha. And while Sinosoul is right about pho being that much cheaper (only in SGV/Westminster tho), location matters. This place is waaay closer to the westside.
omg, you haven’t try this place yet? I can eat that everyday you know? I know I’m going to miss all the food in LA once I go back to TW. *sob*
